Y-3 is an Adidas sportswear line helmed by Tokyo designer Yojhi Yamamoto. Before entering fashion work, Yamamoto studied law and later attended the prestigious Bunka Fukuso Gakuin Design School. After designing his first womenswear collection in 1972, and his launch of fragrances in 2003, he paired up with Adidas, creating the Y-3 label, making it one of the first and most successful designer-activewear partnerships. In its first collection in spring 2003, Y-3 showed that it was a business for both sides. Y-3 includes the look of activewear, like tank tops, sweatpants, and warm-up jackets and amplifies them with new colors and proportions. Adidas shows it on the runway each season and is doing so well with the collection that accessories have recently been added and freestanding stores are showing up throughout the world.
