In the tradition of classic American designers such as Norman Norell, Claire McCardell, Bill Blass, and Halston, Michael Kors caters to lovers of luxe all-American classics including sporty cashmere, bright dramatic gowns, lush furs. A graduate of FIT, the Long Island native began his womenswear empire in 1981 and later also served as the creative director for French house Celine from 1997 to 2003.
Designing both womenswear and, since 2003, menswear as well, Kors has been awarded two CFDA awards and earned accolades for his costume design for Rene Russo in 1999.s The Thomas Crown Affair. Outfitting many Hollywood stars including Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum, and Jessica Simpson, Kors became a household name after starring as a judge on the Bravo hit TV show Project Runway.
In addition to his main ready-to-wear line, the designer has several secondary sportswear lines including, MICHAEL Michael Kors and KORS Michael Kors, as well as the MICHAEL line, which features many affordable handbags and shoes.
