Born in France and then raised in Paris, Rio de Janeiro, and New York, Laura Poretzky debuted her collection Abaete in 2004. Inspired by Poretzky’s own multicultural heritage, Abaete includes references to "French femininity, Brazilian sensuality, and American simplicity". Poretzky attended the Rhode Island School of Design, and upon graduation she worked for Ralph Lauren. She recently collaborated with Payless ShoeSource on the Abaete for Payless line. Kirsten Dunst, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, Nicky Hilton, Mischa Barton, Rihanna, Ashanti, Vanessa Minnillo, Kate Moss, and Jessica Alba have all been seen wearing her designs. Poretzky has recently joined the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
