Diane von Furstenberg

Born in Brussels, designer Diane von Furstenberg is best known for pioneering the effortless wrap dress, a style she created in 1972. Wanting to create "elegant ease" for modern women, von Furstenberg moved to the United States with her then husband, Prince Egon von Furstenberg, and jumped into the fashion scene in 1969. Creating pieces with fluid, simple lines and bright, saturated colors, von Furstenberg became popular in the 1970s with her famous wrap dress, which quickly became a favorite with her glamorous Studio 54 peers and everyday Janes alike. Her own label.which now includes cosmetics, luggage, shoes, and accessories.continues to grow, as does the line of fine jewelry von Furstenberg collaborated on with H.Stern. With her company based in Manhattan.s Meatpacking District, she is currently the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the organization that also awarded her a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
