Devi Kroell

Devi Kroell’s premiere line of luxe handbags, made of exotic, metallic leather, launched Spring 2004 to high acclaim from stores, magazines, and celebrities. Several upscale stores, such as Barney’s New York, Browns, and Jeffrey New York, picked up the collection immediately, and they were featured in fashion publications, like Vogue, W, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and WWD. Two years later, the CFDA gave the New York-based designer the Swarovski Perry Ellis Award for Accessory Design. In the same month – June 2006 – Kroell opened her first retail boutique in East Hampton.

Going along with the designer-looks-for-less trend, Kroell designed a line of handbags for mass-retailer Target in July 2007. Since the success of her handbags, she has also launched a line of footwear in the same metallic-leather style.

Kroell draws her inspiration from the many places she lived as a child. The daughter of a diplomat, Kroell grew up in Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, Israel, France, and Italy, and currently, she lives in New York City. "Very much like New York, I try to take out the essences of all cultures," she has said. Her web site, DeviKroell.com, expresses the essence of her bags and shoes: Each collection creates a perfect fusion of her nomadic past: the postmodern shapes associated with her native Austria, the snake skins of Indonesia, and the exquisite workmanship of the French and Italian.
