10 TV Stars Fitness Secrets From TV Guide
By: Burning The Scale    1 days 12 hours 56 minutes ago
Channel: Health & Wellness

TV Guide’s June 30th issue, out in stands June 24th,  have the 10 TV Stars that shared their secrets for having the best bods in the business. Well, let’s see if we can learn from a couple of them :

Mario Lopez (host of Americas Best Dance Crew and Extras weekend edition co-host) tells TV Guide, I never feel awake unless Im sweating. A self-described fat baby turned hyper kid, Lopez, 34, exercises for a minimum of one hour a day.  And while his ideal woman is as health-conscious as he is, this single stud doesnt want to date a stick: I like healthy, curvy women, he says.  Women who look like women, not girls.

Audrina Patridge (The Hills) is a fat-burning machine.  Back in high school, doctors told her to guzzle milk to slow her metabolism.  These days, the 23-year-old prefers Latin food and In-N-Out burgers, but watches her portionsI order what I want when Im out, but I dont eat all of it, she tells TV Guide.  To maintain her bikini-ready body, Patridge works up a sweat five hours a week, doing laps in her backyard pool, hiking in Runyon Canyon or boogying in dance class.  Even at home, shes no couch potato:  When Im sitting in front of the TV, I lift 5-pound weights or do squats, she says. And I wear heels when I vacuum because it works my calves and my butt.

For more celeb fitness secrets buy the new issue of TV Guide. You never know, it might motivate you to do something for the summer. I know I need motivation myself. :)

Happy Hour For Your Butt
By: Burning The Scale    2 days 7 hours 45 minutes ago
Channel: Health & Wellness

Whenever I pass by a Crunchgym everyone seems to be already fabulous and having a great time. Maybe it’s because this sounds like the best gym EVER. Every Tuesday this summer you can stop in to any of their locations from 6-9pm and work out to live music and DJs. OR you can just mingle and see what the gym is all about and scope out some hotties. You can even take a group class…for free. It says open for “any and all to workout”, which I take to mean free pass yo! I guess you would have to actually go in to see what the catch is. It sound like an awesome way to meet new people and do something besides scarfing down food and/or alcohol after work. If I was single I would so be there. That and midnight yoga that they have here. Sounds sexy and fun. But I am not single and my happy hourconsists ofmaking dinners that can be produced during the course of one episode of Dora (that evil cow).

Has anyone checked this out yet? I’d really like to hear about it. If you sign up online you can get a one day guest pass for free so it might be worth it to see what the fuss is all about.

My Favorite Workout Fabric: Climalite

Climalite Pants

My obsession with the fabric Climalite continues. . . I adore it and it wicks sweat just amazingly. But there’s more: these new Adidas trousers are perfectly shapely and suited perfectly for activities like yoga and pilates. If you’re doing anything low-impact or involving stretches, these are the exercise pants for you. Some more hot features:

Rollover waistband with a drawstring

Bronze details at hip and at drawstring

Poly/elastane blend

Do you like any “miracle fabrics”? What are they?

Check them out.

5 Tips For Summer Festival Fun
By: Burning The Scale    6 days 7 hours 49 minutes ago
Channel: Health & Wellness

Here in my neck of the woods there is an endless supply of neighborhood cookouts, outdoors festivals and the like. While they are a lot of fun and a great way to meet new friends, it’s very easy to get off track. You start out the day hoping to score some homemade crafts and hear live music and the next thing you know you’ve eaten your way through a bag of kettle corn and are passed out in a beer tent. Here are some helpful tips on how to enjoy yourself but not overdo it.

  1. Pre-Game. No not on booze like you did in college. I mean eat a big healthy meal before you ever leave the house so you aren’t so ravenousyou’re ready to kill small children to get some funnel cake. A power breakfast will give you the energy to get through the day and will take the edge off so you can make healthier choices.
  2. Hydrate. Make sure you have had some water before you get to your destination and keep the liquids coming throughout the day. Salty foods, maybe some alcoholic beverages, they all add up. Take a chug of water when you are starting to feel like snacking and see if that helps.
  3. BYOS (bring your own snacks). If your only options cost 12 tickets for a choice of fried goodies that doesn’t leave you with many options. Make sure to bring along your own healthy snacks, like fruit and nuts, that travel well. This way you will spend less money and you won’t feel like you have to eat crap.
  4. Share.Provided you are close enough to the other person to do so, why not split a serving. You won’t feel deprived but you also can cut some calories.
  5. Cheat. If you want to indulge go ahead and do it. When I feel like I’m being deprived of something it just makes me mad and then I end up eating way too much of it out of defiance. Plan to sample one or two treats and enjoy them. Everything in moderation as they say.

Above all make sure you have a great time and wear sunblock!

A Slight Gym Slump
By: Burning The Scale    6 days 9 hours 10 minutes ago

Forest

Okay, I’ll admit it: I’m in a bit of a slump, but nothing major. Here’s the story: I just switched from NY to VT on my way to Miami. Putting my stuff in storage was a mess, I have animals that freak out when we do anything different, and I have a very tight schedule. So when I moved back, I ran into a tight spot: I have no gym to speak of, and while I had thought that the woods would be a great place to exercise, I sort of forgot what it’s like to crash through the woods: not so nice. Paired with a ridiculous amount of rain, I’m just a little bit scared right now.

With the outdoor workout not going too well, I’m switching over to the gym again. I feel like I failed a tad with all my summer exercise plans, but the gym is better than nothing. I guess I’m not an outdoors girl like I thought I was. . . Sigh.

What’s your top “motivation tip”? I need it to get going! What inspires you, what keeps you going, and– most importantly– what is a good way to help someone who needs an e-boost?!
