Be Discovered 2008 Finalists
The wait is over! After much deliberation our VIP judges have picked a Be Discovered: Design a Dress semi-finalists: Kate Spray! This talented young designer wins a trip to New York City and apprenticeship in Adam Lippes’ studio—just the place to sharpen her design skills! Check out her winning design and the fashionable work of her fellow finalists:
Drew S.
Don’t let Drew S.’s breezy black-tie gown fool you: Making the colorful look proved to be a crash course in artful craftsmanship. “I hand-dyed my fabrics, which I really enjoyed because as an artist I like to get my hands dirty,” the Ohio native says. “I also enjoyed adding all the embroidery on the dress, even though I suffered a lot of battle wounds on that stage of the construction.” Surely some lucky partygoer will be grateful for his efforts.

The embroidery is beautiful, I'd like to see a close up of it! The only issue i have with this is the dye on the bottom. Perhaps the fabric didn't take well, but if it had had been left for a little longer could it have been more vividly red?

Colors and layering are beautiful in this dress. It is a bit too busy though. I would like to see the skirt hug the body more and flare out below the knee as in the sketch maybe a bias cut and Loose the sash. This design was quite an undertaking and deserves applause.
