(1 of 8) NYFW Fall 08: Erin FetherstonCould it be that industry darling Erin Fetherston—pioneer of the girlish, fairy-tale trend—has a dark side? For her fall collection she tempered her joie-de-vie aesthetic with darker, more somber layers, specifically chunky black knits, quilted velvet, and filmy black lace. Floral prints—usually a willowy, lighthearted affair—were emboldened by the use of vivid photo prints of oversize blooms that were set against a backdrop of black silk. Few runway looks resembled the sweetly playful pieces that were found in her recent collection for Target, but that doesn’t mean they were any less wearable. Drop-waist dresses and boxy velvet jackets offered a polished ease, while breezy floor-dusting gowns spoke to Fetherston’s many fellow romantics. Look 1
