Best of Paris Fall 08
Where else but the birthplace of la mode could one find such spectacular clothes? To brighten your day, take a whirlwind tour of the City of Light's best fashion. Here is a quick look at what Paris’s top designers have in store for fall.

Yves Saint Laurent Though it may seem harsh and unapproachable now, fresh off the runway, Stefano Pilati’s fall collection for YSL will serve as one of the season’s most influential shows. Gone is the sophisticated French romance we’ve all come to associate with the house, and in its place arrived a vision of severe modernity. Pilati offered darkly dramatic versions of the season’s key trouser silhouette—high-waist cut, billowing out at the knee then nipping in at the ankle—and experimented with tightly tailored jackets, offering some with stiff flounces and some sans collar. While there was a touch of ’80s futurism—from bold black wigs to patent booties—the show presented a shockingly new image of what today’s wardrobe could be. It may take a few years for all to share his vision, but Pilati has pushed the envelope, which is more than can be said for many of his peers around the globe.
