Known for their flirty party frocks and romantic floor-grazing gowns, Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are quickly becoming the go-to designers for stars in need of a striking red-carpet look. Case in point: Hollywood trendsetters Jennifer Lopez and Sienna Miller both wore Marchesa to this year’s Golden Globes. Here, the two share with us a few of their favorite things, from the perfect presents to the best beachside destinations.
Describe the perfect party dress. An evening dress that is unique and beautiful and that lets you feel confi- dent and sexy, like our white organza strapless dress.
Who do you consider to be the greatest style icon of all time? Marchesa Luisa Casati is our muse and inspiration. She was a society style icon, and she wanted to be a living work of art. We try to incorporate that ideal into our designs.
What other designers do you admire? There are so many! We love vintage clothing and jewelry and have so many favorites from past to present from all different genres.
They range from Vionnet, Chanel, and John Galliano to Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.
What’s your favorite… Restaurant? Cipriani. Drink? Bellini. Beauty line? Stila. Jewelry house? Verdura. Travel destination? Anywhere we haven’t been yet. What are you currently listening to? There is a lot of music on our office iPod, ranging from classics like Pink Floyd to low-key ambient club.
What advice do you have for women who … 1) Love fashion but can’t afford high-end department stores? Shop vintage. 2) Dread summer and its obligatory show-more-skin fashions? Wear white. 3) Can’t find the perfect pair of jeans? Try 7 for All Mankind.
