Guess?

Founded by Moroccan-born brothers George, Armand, Paul and Maurice Marciano in 1981, Guess?, the popular American clothing brand, has had many a success with their denim and fashion accessories, as well as their knack for advertising. Able to start their business with help from fellow jean designers, the Nakash brothers, their empire began with the “Marilyn,” a three-zipper jean. After the new “stone washed denim” sold out at Bloomingdale’s, Guess’s ad campaigns debuted in 1982, introducing their black and white ads in 1985, the same decade as their iconic jeans quickly became all the rage. A few Guess models involved in their famous advertising have included Naomi Campbell, Alessandra Ambrosio, Claudia Schiffer, Drew Barrymore and Anna Nicole Smith. Being one of the first brands to introduce designer jeans, Guess launched a men’s line in 1983 and a year later, a watch collection, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2004 where the company issued a special-edition watch. Throughout the years, their ads have become sexier helping their sales rise, and become more popular with a younger crowd. Marciano, the brand’s up-scale female line and first extension, debuted featuring runway-inspired looks and Guess branched out with an extensive accessory line, a kids clothing line, a re-launch of men’s shoes and lower-priced merchandise to be sold in outlet stores. With the majority of their stores throughout the U.S. and Canada, Guess products can also be found at department stores such as Macy’s, Nordstrom and Dillards.
